Face to Face Transactions Currently Suspended
Lobbies are Closed at this Time

All Johnson County Tax Office locations have suspended in-person services as of March 24, 2020 as a result of COVID-19 for the safety and well-being of both the public and our staff.

While our lobbies are not open at this time, Tax Office operations will continue and our services remain available online, by drop box, mail and phone. We are not closed. Employees will continue to work and process transactions received online, by mail and drop box as well as assisting by phone and email.

Our website offers many online services, resources and information including the ability to research and pay property taxes, renew vehicle registration and download forms and much more.

Drop boxes are available at all three Tax Office locations Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm. Please only pay by check, money order or cashier’s check in the drop box. Make sure transactions are sealed in an envelope with all the relevant information so we know how to process or apply. Please include a return address and a day time phone number in case you may need to be reached. We will complete the transaction and mail back.

To prevent customers from having to physically visit a County Tax Assessor-Collector Office as a result of COVID-19, Governor Abbott issued a statement on March 16, 2020, granting a temporary extension to obtain initial registration, renewal of registration, vehicle titling, and renewal of a permanent disabled parking placard as well as a temporary extension for an individual with an expired 30-day temporary permit to obtain another permit or Texas registration.

The temporary waiver applies to vehicle owners in all Texas counties. This temporary waiver is in effect until 60 days after TxDMV notifies the public that normal vehicle registration, vehicle titling and related services have resumed. The 60-day period will be the same for all counties.

To preserve the accommodation of a temporary extension for the registration and titling of purchased vehicles, the Texas Comptroller’s office is providing an extension of up to 90 days past the original due date to pay the motor vehicle sales tax due on these purchases.

Late penalties will be assessed as if the last day of the extension is the original due date. For more information, visit the Texas Comptroller online at

Note: This motor vehicle sales tax extension does not apply to seller-financed motor vehicle sales. In these cases, the tax is reported and paid directly to the Comptroller’s office instead of a CTAC upon registration.

For Property tax, please note that there are no changes or extensions granted by the Texas Property Tax Code. All requirements and deadlines according to the Texas Property Tax Code still apply.

Two Steps One Sticker
As a result of House Bill 2305 passed during the 83rd legislative session, the State of Texas will stop issuing inspection stickers and transition to a “Two Steps, One Sticker” vehicle inspection and registration program. Beginning March 1, 2015,

Auto Registration Online 
Johnson County residents can now renew registration for motor vehicles online. This feature is convenient, easy and designed to save you time!
Property Taxes Property Tax Online
Search and pay property taxes online with eCheck or by credit card. Transactions are processed through our secured server and deliver immediate responses. Once you find your property in the online search just click on the account number and then select the e-payment button.
Toll Tags Toll Tags
The Johnson County Tax Office has joined with NTTA as a regional partner to offer the convenience of picking up toll tags for up to three vehicles at any of our three locations when opening a new NTTA account. Stop by any of our locations to pick up your NTTA toll tag! (we are only able to provide toll tags when opening a new NTTA account. If you already have an existing NTTA account, you will want to make any modifications to the existing account directly with NTTA at or by calling 972-818-6882). NTTA requires a credit card to establish a new toll tag account.
